I have decided to start this blog in an attempt to record my design thinking and process. I was recently accepted on the ICAD Upstart graphic design programme and it has kicked off to a busy start. The programme consists of 1 workshop each week for 6 weeks. Each week the 'upstarts' are given a brief that we have to complete and present the following week. It all ends with an exhibition at the end of October as part of Design Week 2011.
The first brief was set by David Joyce of Language. Keeping a sketchbook for the week, and completing a drawing based on work from it, each day. We then have to collate these 7 completed drawings plus accompanying text pieces into a 16 page book.
I am in the habit of carrying a notebook, and I do love to take notes of strange things, but I found this quite hard to start with, a little labored perhaps. I've eased into it as the week has gone on and am really enjoying making time to do lots of drawing. It did help a lot when I talked to my mentors for the programme, Noelle and Colin of Unthink. Thanks guys.
