Beautiful song by Wolf Larsen.
Jewellery stand designed by me, made in collaboration with FabAllThings. I was delighted that my design was picked to go into production, and it is on sale now for €28.50. It is available in lots of great bright colours too!
A couple of weeks ago, I started a new project that was inspired by the great fun I had writing and illustrating limericks for a recent exhibition. A limerick a week was born and so far I have done three. At the moment they are very quick drawings, with most of the time spent writing. I hope to add a little more colour with time, but I'm enjoying the quickness and movement in them at the moment.
On Wednesday last I started a workshop/course Human-centered design for social innovation, which is run by IDEO.org and Acumen. Our team of four will be working together to solve a social issue in Dublin, what that is, has still to be revealed. For the intro workshop we had to devise ideas to improve our daily commute.
Some great ideas came out of the workshop, which focussed on asking questions, letting ideas flow, talk between the team to discuss the strongest ideas, then prototype, iterate, and present to the group.
Last Friday was the opening of Love/Illustrate, an exhibition of work by the illustrators in a course I was doing. The opening was a great success, with great work, great visitors, nice wine and a few sales too.
I was delighted I decided to get my prints framed in the end. Being a very last minute decision I was a little panicky, but Hang Tough framers came to my rescue and saved the day, with amazingly quick turn-around, lovely frames and a good price, I was chuffed.
This crazy dog (attached below) went down a storm, with a good few selling. If you fancy one of your own head on over to my shop and pick one up. 3-colour risograph print for €20 unframed (Edition of 20).
There are times when you have to be glad you're Not alone late at night with a badger, For he'll snarl and he'll hiss Which you cannot dismiss By displaying to him what a lad you're.
This limerick is written by my dad, John S. Doyle, about an a story I told after being chased by a badger.
Drawing by me.
Google Doodle to celebrate Saul Bass' 93rd Birthday. Once again, Google create a beautiful 'doodle' to celebrate a great. In this case Saul Bass, who is best known for his film title sequences, posters and logos.
Below a selection of logos he designed.
I had a very successful day of drawing yesterday. I'm working on a series of illustrated limericks about the house I live in. These are some roughs of the house itself. All done with ink and nib.
I'm working up this guy! He came from another project I'm working on! Updates to follow.
Well! What an amazing weekend I just had. Friday, Saturday and Sunday were spent attentively listening to and absorbing inspiration from some of the worlds best creatives at Offset Here are a few pics.
Now to go and turn that inspiration into great work...
I'm taking part in this exhibition which opens in June. For the exhibition I'm working on a series of illustrated limericks about the house I live in. Here's the poster for the show, created by Lauren O'Neill.
A drawing for a project I'm working on at the moment. This is a simple etching done during a print workshop. Much more to come!
Today's Google Doodle celebrates the late Edward Gorey's 88th birthday. I had forgotten about his marvelous illustrations, of which The Shrinking of Treehorn work are my favourite. I still have the copy from when I was a child, of this great story by Florence Parry Heide.
